You are TWO!

From 0-12 months, your dada and I experienced tears, worry, stress, and fear.  But Field, from 12-24 months, we have been filled with JOY, laughter, smiles, and FUN!

We have had recent check-ups with our cardiologist, nephrologist, and pediatrician.  You have gotten excellent reports from everyone and are down to only 2 medications!  Enalapril for heart function/blood pressure and aspirin (which you will take all of your life).  We are so grateful for your health!

You are SO good and patient at the doctor's office.  The pretend doctor's kit Uncle Bubba and Aunt Tara got you is key - we practice visiting the doctor at home and so it's a piece of cake when the real visits come.  

Your second year on this earth has been full of incredible milestones.  You have learned to walk, talk, run, and jump - and let's throw in a few tantrums every now and then too.  ;)

Field, my love for you is so strong that I cannot possibly put it into words.  You are our world.  You are everything to us.  You are our pride, our joy, and our greatest blessing.

We've learned many things about you these past 24 months.  First and foremost, you are not a fan of Santa, the Easter bunny, or any other life sized furry figure.  Even a big, buff man at the gym covered in tattoos scared you one day.  As a friend lovingly pointed out, guess that means we have a few more years until we head to Disney World!

We've learned that you LOVE trucks and trains - hence the "Choo Choo, Field is TWO" birthday party theme.

We've learned that you take after your momma and enjoy sleeping in each morning.

Ok, your naps are sometimes "iffy," but you sure do sleep well at night and you LOVE to sleep in each morning.

You also have boundless energy that is truly amazing.  We are talking turbo speed at all times, Field.

Most pictures come out like this - blurry.  You are always in action.  

Your personality?  Well, it's amazing.  You love to laugh and entertain and you have the most friendly spirit.  Sometimes I think you are more outgoing than your own parents!

You love to question what things are and what they do.  You walk around saying, "What's this?" as you learn, grow, and develop.  Another fun word you are saying these days:  techno - you like to yell at mommy in the car to play techno and mommy has to gently and lovingly explain that daddy is the "cool parent" that plays techno in the car, mommy only plays nursery songs and children's music, haha!  Let's just say you LOVE music, like your dada!

  
One of your favorite new activities is "wimming."  You love the pool and you are not afraid of the water.  Our first swim lesson was a hoot.  You laughed and squealed the entire time.  Your joy is truly contagious!

I am not kidding, exaggerating, or trying to brag when I say this, but I am constantly stopped in the grocery store by older women telling me how handsome you are and that you are the "picture of health."  I have had many people use those exact words when commenting on you and your looks.  It is nothing short of amazing.  For all that we have gone through and all that you have endured, and for strangers to comment on you being the "picture of health?"  I am speechless!

Your favorite places/things are the "wimming" pool, your clubhouse in the backyard, the choo choo train at the San Antonio zoo, the tractor at Lowe's, and both of your grandparents' homes.

As mentioned earlier, you are one of the most social toddlers I have ever known, but your very best friend is your sweet cousin, Ellie.  You adore her.  And I think the feeling is mutual.

What melts momma's heart the most - when you fold those sweet hands and bow your head to pray to Jesus.  Thank you, BSF, for helping us teach our son what is most important.  His love for us.  Field, I can see in your eyes that you love Jesus and you know He loves you.  I love your sweet and gentle side too.  When you wake up in the morning and say, "Hi Mama!" and when you go to sleep at night and say, "I love you, Mama."  

I am so grateful that we were chosen to be your parents - to teach you, care for you, and love you.

Memorial Day Weekend 2012 - Just the 3 of us!

Our Memorial Day weekend was jam-packed with lots of fun (and a little bit of work too).  I had a few appointments for work on Friday afternoon (have I mentioned I work one day a week?) before we headed out of town for the coast.  Unfortunately, our babysitter canceled on me very last minute due to being sick so after scrambling and stressing, my sweet sister took Field in and took care of him so I could get to work.

Friday afternoon, we loaded up the truck and headed southbound for Port Aransas.  We have a very busy summer ahead of us and wanted to spend some quality time together - just the 3 of us - before the hustle and bustle of summer begins.

My parents' own a home in Port Aransas that we are SO thankful to get to stay in when we are there.  Field made himself right at home with the "toy cabinet" when we arrived.

The beach was a blast and Field LOVED "wimming" in the ocean.

After our beach time, Field took a 2.5 hour nap, daddy ran errands for a fishing tournament he is hosting in Port A next weekend, and momma did this:

After naptime, we got dressed in our Port A finest (ha, kidding!) and set out for dinner in town.  We ate at Fins and had a great time!

Field was so nice to pay for our dinner.  ;)

After dinner we took a stroll down the jetties to watch all of the action.  It was so much fun watching everyone bring in different fish and the people watching was awesome.

Yes, he actually grabbed someone's fishing pole.

Brad took us on a boat ride Sunday morning (Mr. Field was NOT happy about wearing a life jacket) and then we  headed back Sunday afternoon, had a delicious and fun mexican dinner, and then spent Monday doing yard work and catching up around the house.

We hit up the neighborhood pool on Monday afternoon which wore Field out.  Swimming lessons cannot come soon enough.  I can't tell you how many times Field would yell "Ready, Set, Go" in the baby pool and throw himself backwards and underwater, only to drink a ton of water and come up coughing.  Sigh.  

It was such a fun Memorial Day weekend together - just the 3 of us!

Go Red!

Last Friday afternoon, we attended the San Antonio Go Red for Women luncheon.  This is an annual event promoting heart health for women.  Did you know that heart disease is the #1 cause of death for women?!  The event was incredible!

A few weeks ago, our friends at the American Heart Association asked us to attend this luncheon with Field.  They didn't mention much other than what time to be there and to wear red.  We knew they would be honoring Field in some way, but we weren't sure how.  The details were actually so vague, that I called the AHA the week of the event to make sure I didn't need to prepare a speech - I did not want to be caught off guard!

So the day of the luncheon, Brad, Field, and I wore our RED and set out for the luncheon.  This event is a big deal and there was quite a crowd out at the Westin La Cantera.  We were totally "those people" that took our toddler to a ladies' luncheon.  I was really embarrassed as we trekked around with our stroller, a huge diaper bag, my big camera (which decided not to work hence the awful quality pictures we have from the event), and an active little boy.  I am sure many of the women were wondering why in the world we would bring him to this kind of event.  I even talked to the executive director of the AHA (who is a friend of Brad's) about how bad I felt for having a baby at a luncheon.  It's a bit like taking a baby to a bar - you just don't do it.   Anyway, everyone reminded us that the crowd would know in due time why we had our little toddler at this event.

We briefly spoke with the speaker, Janet, right before the event started.  She quickly shared her story, I was in tears, and she was precious to our family.  So glad to know her!  

Once the luncheon began, we waited anxiously for Janet to share her story knowing that Field would be honored during her speech.  Brad was in and out of the ballroom with Field, trying to keep him entertained and happy.  He found the snacks and crammed as many animal crackers as he could fit into his mouth right as Janet began her story.  Janet has a father and a twin sister who have had heart attacks and have had open heart surgery.  She also had a daughter who died 25 years ago at the age of 3 to a congenital heart defect that is very similar to Field's.  Just 25 years ago, babies like Field did not have much of a chance to live.  That is mind boggling to me.  After sharing about her precious daughter, Janet explained that although they lost their battle, they helped pave the way for children like Field Johnson, who is winning his battle today.  Then she had us stand and the entire ballroom gave Field an applause.  He smiled, clapped for himself, and yelled out "Hi!" with a mouthful of animal crackers.  :)

Go Red for Women Luncheon - May 11, 2012

Although that moment was hard for many reasons, I recognize how very blessed we are to have a little boy who has surpassed all expectations and continues to amaze us every day.  The Lord continues to bring us peace, joy, and thankfulness for our precious miracle Field.
