They told us from the beginning that recovery is never easy and there would always be speed bumps and maybe even a few road blocks. This journey will be a rollercoaster. That's just the name of the game.
So today we found out that there was a small blood clot in Field's heart - not a road block but a huge speed bump. It actually can be quite common for these to occur, but not so common to find them inside the heart, which is where they were suspecting it was.
Well, after several hours of waiting (while worrying but also intently praying) the Trans-Esophageal Echo showed that there is NOT a blood clot, but rather tissue that has formed a ridge in his left atrium. This is normal and not harmful and also VERY good news. Praise God!
They are still planning to extubate Field this afternoon. They prolonged it a bit so that they could do the fully sedated TE echo.
We have to wait for sedation to wear off and then we will move forward with extubation. He's starting to stir so hopefully he will wake up enough very soon so we can extubate.
